I always find myself craving shabu, and this place never disappoints. They consistently have the best marinated meat, which is flavorful and tender, making every bite enjoyable. The selection of fresh ingredients and dipping sauces enhances the experience, allowing for a personalized meal that feels both comforting and indulgent. If you're a shabu lover like me, this spot is definitely worth checking out!
Came in with a friend around 5pm. One male server greeted us and our order was taken almost immediately. The food came out really great too; we ordered the two person combo with the two drinks (calpico and diet soda) and for the appetizer we got the garlic shrimp. Everything tasted amazing, although I will say for the appetizer, the Irvine location was a little better. The store quickly filled up but service was always prompt and we were always well taken care of. The yogurt soju drink that we got was also super delicious: if you like the taste of Yakult and soju, you would absolutely enjoy this drink. The drink was super big too so it was perfect for me and my friend to enjoy slowly while eating the food. Mokkoji's meat is always trustworthy and I also asked for extra rice and extra veggies without charge so make sure you do that! Everything was super tasty and I felt that the price was pretty fair for the combo because you each get a choice of ice cream for dessert. We both picked the FatBoy icecream! Thank you Mokkoji, we'll definitely be back!
Our first time trying the togo order and it was bomb! My 7 yr old has been craving shabu for a long time so even it was super hot we did it . Just with conditions of doing at home since i dont want to go out and drive. It was worth it!
My husband and I eat here frequently. It's our guilty pleasure for sure. We like to order the yummy sweet sukiyaki broth with the sukiyaki egg, side of ramen and share the Halal Australian Wagyu Kataroshin since we can only eat halal meat. The quality of meat is so fresh and I like how it's thinly sliced. We haven't tried the Zabuton because it's a pricier but I presume it's just as good. If you like spicy, add in hot drops!! I get 2 1/2 in my broth and 1 in each sauce. Personally I think it goes so well with the sukiyaki flavor. The service is always great, so far no complaints and as I mentioned my husband and I go here A LOT. Clean restaurant and well maintained.
I love me some shabu shabu on chilly days or anytime, even during the warm SoCal summer. Hotpot is my choice for comfort food. I have been to the Mokkoji GG location, which didn't leave a good impression. The newest addition in Cypress is spacious and airy. We have been here several times, and the wait is usually minimal. Most are familiar with the concept of shabu, but if it is your first time, then it may be a little complex. You start with broth selection - our usual choices are miso and tonkotsu (pork bone). They do refill your hotpot when it runs low. Next is the protein selection - our faves are flat iron or New York. You may have the meat marinated in sesame oil, scallions, and garlic for additional flavor. There are also seafood options. Each order comes with a side of rice and noodles. Veggies are included - bok choy, napa cabbage, and kale are unlimited refills. The ponzu and goma sauces are tasty. The meat quality is average as compared to other places. Service is quick and attentive. This spot is our go-to when we don't want the long wait!
Loved the service. All the employees were attentive and nice. That goes a long way when you have good service. The food was yummy. They provide a plate of veggies for you. So no veggie buffet to choose from. Even though I liked the food, I wouldn't say that it was any different from any other shabu shabu place I have been to. Don't get me wrong, it was quality but nothing unique to review on.
I ordered the Jidori Chicken, which doesn't seem as popular as the other dishes, but it is really good! It comes with about 6-8? (I forget exactly how many) ground chicken balls stuffed with green onions and 6-8? thick slices of well-seasoned chicken breast. The sauces that come with each serving and/or the broth alone can make up for any lack of flavor within the meat. We came in during a weekday, before the dinner rush around 3-4 PM, so it is relatively empty. Food quality is excellent. Service is mediocre/lacking, even though there weren't many customers. You have to flag the servers all the time anytime you want something extra and rarely check up on you. (I've been here at least over 5 times and it's been like this every time I've gone, so it could be bad if you constantly need something.) Portion sizes are large and come with FREE unlimited servings of vegetables and rice. Despite this, not many people would order more because the first serving size is large enough to fill you up. Summary: - BATHROOM. Only one bathroom. It is male or female, doesn't matter. - CLEANLINESS. Very clean and orderly. We usually come when there aren't many customers anyway, so timing and experience could vary. - COSTS. +$20 or more for any meal. A bit pricey to me, but you will get your money's worth and be full. - CUSTOMER SERVICE. Average/lacking. There aren't many servers there to begin with, and they rarely check up on you. - FOOD QUALITY. Ingredients are fresh and delicious. Vegetables are clean and the meat is high quality and well-seasoned. - PARKING. Lots of spacious parking. - WAIT TIME. We came when the restaurant was practically empty, so take this with a grain of salt. Food came out in about 10 minutes after ordering. The wait time to get anything extra (ordering extra veggies or asking for water) will vary depending on your server.
We recently celebrated my son's birthday at a Mokkoji Shabu Shabu, and it was a delicious experience. It was my first visit to this cozy establishment, and I was pleasantly surprised by the inviting ambiance and attention to detail. One of the highlights of our dining experience was the premium meat and fresh vegetables served. The meat, in particular, was a cut above the rest - thick slices marinated to perfection, bursting with flavor with each bite. It was evident that the restaurant prioritized quality over quantity, and it truly paid off. While this shabu shabu restaurant may be a bit pricey, it undoubtedly delivers on both quality and taste. For anyone seeking a memorable dining experience filled with delicious food and cozy ambiance, I highly recommend giving this place a try.
Mokkoji is a good a la carte shabu spot that has several locations throughout Socal. They have plenty of meat options and the quality is definitely above your typical AYCE shabu spot. What makes them stand out from other shabu spots is they have a lot of broth options to choose from ranging from your standard tonkotsu to fire crab. Portions are good here and pricing depends on what you order. I got the Brisket in a large size and it was marinated when it arrived and the presentation of the meat was well presented. The service here is good with the staff coming by to check often and refilling the bowls with more broth or bringing more food if we needed it. You also get your typical sides after you order and they give you a lot. My friends and I had a great dinner here recently and were stuffed after eating everything. Shabu on a cold day is so wonderful and warms you up. There's plenty of tables here and the wait times are usually short even on weekends. Overall, this is a great shabu spot and I recommend coming by if you are wanting hot pot but with higher quality.
Came here on New Year's Day to recover from eve festivities. Something simple, soupy, and packed with flavor. Each person gets their own heater and pot. Got the original soup base since it's my first time here. I appreciate they open because most places are closed around us. Ordered the brisket and chicken combo. The chicken comes with chicken with some toast marks and chicken meat ball. Sauces are yuzu and sesame. You can ask for garlic, spicy miso paste and green onions and spice oil to suite your taste. The veggies platter comes with Napa, tofu, kale, needles mushroom, slice of kabocha, cilantro, and bokchoy.ordered a side of eggrolls which is fried very well. Great experience. Will come here if I crave shabu.
